I’ve slowed down my home winemaking production in 2014, mostly to focus on getting Buchholz Cellars, LLC<\/a>\u00a0operational. \u00a0As such, it took until May to bottle the\u00a0second wine of 2014, #42 Blueberry.<\/p>\n

While blueberries have been an important of ingredient of\u00a0#18 B.R.B.<\/a> and #36 B.R.B.<\/a>, I had not yet made a wine with just blueberries, and\u00a0“42” rhymes with “blue”, so why not? \u00a0\ud83d\ude09 \u00a0They’re related to cranberries<\/a> and the fermentation seemed to follow a similar path, and produced\u00a0quite a bit of hydrogen sulfide, which fortunately blew off. \u00a0As the cranberry wine ended up with a lot of sediment, I used more bentonite when fining, and let it stabilize for longer before bottling.<\/p>\n

Time will tell if this blueberry will\u00a0develop the very fine bottle-sticking sediments, but presently the wine is very clear and a lovely violet color. \u00a0Its aroma is definitely of blueberries, which is also evident in its taste (along with a bit of black pepper). \u00a0Light and perhaps half-dry.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
