{"id":1304,"date":"2015-10-04T19:08:45","date_gmt":"2015-10-05T02:08:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.buchholz-cellars.org\/?p=1304"},"modified":"2015-12-26T22:12:49","modified_gmt":"2015-12-27T06:12:49","slug":"47-pumpkin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.buchholz-cellars.org\/?p=1304","title":{"rendered":"#47 &#8211; Pumpkin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bottled (26) 375ml and (6) 750ml (from 5 gallons) at 14\u00bd% ABV on 4 October 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Made from pie pumpkins from fall 2014. \u00a0This wine may have been in the carboy longer than any of my other wines; although I was quite busy (moving, new day job, traveling), the real reason is that pumpkin wine is notorious for being impossible to settle out\u00a0&#8212;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.buchholz-cellars.org\/?p=1159\">#40 Pumpkin<\/a>\u00a0only yielded about 3 gallons from a 5-gallon batch. \u00a0I tried quite a few things to try to separate the liquid from what-would-otherwise-be-known-as-lees, and although\u00a0I did better this time, I only managed to get about 4 gallons.<\/p>\n<p>This is also the first wine that I&#8217;ve run through a filter, and I think it really did a good job shining it up &#8212; I was afraid that it might extract too much of the little bit of pumpkin spice&#8230; \u00a0As it turns out, I had nothing to fear; this batch tastes even better than the first pumpkin wine (which disappeared very quickly)! \u00a0It&#8217;s also quite versatile &#8212; good at room temperature, as well as chilled and warmed up like sak\u00e9.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bottled (26) 375ml and (6) 750ml (from 5 gallons) at 14\u00bd% ABV on 4 October 2015.
